Pittsfield Community Television

Fourth of July Parade

One of our biggest productions every year is our live coverage of this Pittsfield tradition.  We at PCTV have been covering this parade live since 1988.  This is not only our biggest production as far as viewership is concerned, but also in crew required, pre-production, and set-up.
This year marked many firsts for Pittsfield Community Television's coverage of the parade.  It was the first time we had ever used six cameras.  It was time we used a 25 foot camera boom to get out over the crowd.  It was the first time the parade was cablecast on three channels.  It was also the first program recorded digitally.

Take a look at an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of our coverage of the parade.

Here are some images from this year's parade:

Dave Cachat runs the graphics during the parade. PCTV Intern Gabe Russell-Hoebel mans one of our six cameras during the production.

Everything you heard during the production was controlled by John Williams. PCTV Production Coordinator Norm Schaffer gets the best seat in the house-40 ft. in the air.
Our friends from Golden Lamb Productions were on hand to set up their 25ft. boom camera.   Here is the view of our control room for the parade.
Director and engineer Shawn Serre ponders what to hook up next. Here is shot of Mr. Bob Wells who served as the Grand Marshall for the parade this year.
The parade was hosted again this year by Larry Kratka from WUPE-Radio and Sharon LaPlante. Pittsfield Fire Department was just one of many fire companies that marched during the parade.
Here is one of the many floats designed for the parade.  This one is from the local Senior Center. This is a photo of Beetle Bailey.  Or I should say a giant balloon of Beetle Bailey.
This is the official marching unit for the City of Pittsfield.  It is the Eagles Band. Bands came from all over the country to perform in the parade, just like the one above from Plainville, CT.
