Pittsfield Community Television

Production Control Room Rebuild

On April 17 & 18, 2001, staff members Norm Schaffer, Shawn Serre, and David Cachat were joined with volunteer Rob Dumais in constructing a new production control room for Pittsfield Community Television.  We purchased custom made racks and bays for the equipment.  We were able to free up some extra space and this makes the room seem much bigger.  This new room is more user friendly, so if you are interested in volunteering at PCTV now is the perfect time.

Here are some images from the construction:

This is what the room looked like just before the reconstruction began.  The equipment before was designed to be taken out of the room for remote shoots. We next had to get the equipment out of the room so it would not be damaged during our work.  This is the equipment sitting on our conference room table.

Here is production coordinator Norm Schaffer taking apart some of the leg supports from the old table we had. While Norm is busy inside taking apart the legs, Rob is outside taking apart the old wall.
Now that the old walls and equipment are out of the room, Dave and Shawn are discussing where to put the tracks in the floor for the cabling. Once the location of the tracks was settled upon, Shawn began drilling these tracks out of the floor cross beams.
We even got new carpeting to lay down on the floor.  Notice the hole in the carpet where the cable track is.  The work of putting together these new custom racks was rather easy and here we are putting on the counter tops.
Here is a shot of the new front bays to the Production console.  This is where the director, VTR operator, and graphics crew members sit. Here is a wide shot of the new room.  The crew sits behind the bays and watches the monitors in the far racks.
