Pittsfield Community Television

These are images from the 2004 4th of July Parade, which was held on the 5th of July. Go figure. This was the first major truck shoot we attempted with our new mobile production vehicle.  We usually had the truck configured for a three camera shoot, but for this shoot we hooked up 10 cameras. This caused many headaches. Other headaches were caused by a new switcher, problems with our hard disk recorder, a broken monitor, a character generator that died 3 days before the parade, a camera cable that died during setup, our land power was no good, and that is just the start.

This production also was a big milestone due to the fact that we were going national with the coverage. With funding from the Pittsfield Parade Committee we were able to rent a C-Band satellite truck and beam this production around the country. Over 2 million cable subscribers across the country had a chance to view the parade. Viewers from New York, Texas, California, Michigan and Maine were among those tuning in on the morning of the 5th.

Shawn and Dave behaved badly so they were put into the PCTV medieval torture device. That's Shawn with his head through the switcher cut out. Dave's head is visible through a opening above the monitors. Dave hands Shawn something from the back of the truck. Dave puts the lotion in the basket or else he gets the hose again.

Shawn doing a his best prairie dog impression. Shawn about to call it a night. This is taken a few days before the parade date.
Brian Schaffer (on left) assists his brother Norm with the camera that is mounted in a bucket truck. Member Bob Hamel sets up one of our scaffold cameras.
This camera is mounted on the roof of our production vehicle. Here comes the satellite truck around the corner.
The satellite truck was able to setup in the parking lot of the court house located next to our setup location. Here is a great view of the satellite transmitter with the PCTV truck in the background.
Rob Dumais puts the finishing touches on the hosts headset microphones. Shawn sums up the whole production experience in the perfect facial expression for the day.
