Pittsfield Community Television

This years UCP telethon took place on Sunday, January 19, 2003.  The crew began setting up on Saturday afternoon in the Pittsfield Crowne Plaza.  We came back early Sunday morning to finish the set-up.  Once we had finished most of our preparations, power went out.  Seems that power was knocked out for about a quarter of the city.  This happened at about 11:30am and power was not restored until 2 minutes before the broadcast was set to begin.

We sent a crew back to our PCTV studios, which still had power, with one of the hosts to start the program.  They stayed on the air for the first 15 minutes of the telethon before throwing it back to the newly lit Crowne Plaza.  All in all it was a fun and exciting production.

Here are some images, if you want to help out next year please contact us.

Kevin and Patrick Gormalley begin the process of the setting up the cameras on the dance floor of the Crowne Plaza. This is VIP area of the telecast.  This set location was where co-host Fran Marinaro would interview local people about UCP.

Shawn Serre is seen putting the finishing touches on the production control rack.  This serves as the nerve center for all the taping and live transmission of the telethon. The graphics workstation.  This area was ran by Rob Dumais during the telethon.  All graphics including lower thirds, sponsors, and tote board were run from here.  Also videotape roll-ins were controlled from this table.
John Williams, our esteemed audio tech, is seen setting up his wireless microphone receiver stand. This is all we saw in the Crowne Plaza for about 2 1/2 hours.
A shot our cameras during the blackout. Exit lights show the way during the Great UCP Blackout.
